TENASHEE
"An expansion of kaleidoscopic palettes"
pop and
experimental
sensibilities

Born from over ten years of friendship and creative collaboration, Tenashee is the new project of DJ Tennis (aka Manfredi Romano) and Ashee (aka Joseph Ashworth). An expansion of their kaleidoscopic palettes, Tenashee pushes into deeper, more diverse directions, leaning into pop and experimental sensibilities with finesse, textural detail and
meticulous attention to sound design. Captured on a new Mini-Album set to be released on the 7th of November 2025, Tenashee are introducing themselves on new terms, confounding expectations and breaking new ground in the process.

“We both really enjoy the idea that dance music can be impactful in a mainstream way without sounding mainstream, ”Ashee says, describing an approach that unites the wealth of personal experience each brings to the project. “We've grown together as well as learned from each other.”

For DJ Tennis, that means drawing on a background in punk and post-rock, a love for the mind-bending productions of Boards of Canada and Autechre, long-time event promotion and artist management, soundtrack composition and a career as one of Europe’s foremost selectors, releasing music on Kompakt, Running Back, beside his own label Life and Death.
And where DJ Tennis spends much of his time on tour, Ashee has carved out his reputation in the studio as a prolific and fastidious producer - an obsessive of his craft, whether writing pop music, scoring fashion films, or fine-tuning the kick drum on a future club classic.

"The vocals grew and evolved with the track and the track grew and evolved with the vocals"
When DJ Tennis reached out to work together on his Life and Death Records label, the seed of their creative partnership was planted, first in a production and mixing capacity, and then in releasing a brace of Ashee 12”s,
‘Techno Face’ and ‘Country Classic’, in the early 2020s. Together, the pair bonded over a shared love of ‘90s Warp Records, skittish drum & bass and a desire to listen beyond the limits of genre.
sonic visions to productions

It is from this impulse that the foundations for Tenashee were laid. Samples, drum loops,
vinyl rips sent between Saint Martin in the Caribbean and London, fomenting a nascent
sound that stepped back out of the club for a moment and instead revelled simply in the joy
of creation. Iterative and organic, the pair started forming tracks that stretched their legs in
new directions, punctuating bursts of intense recording in Ibiza with cooking and sharing
records, complimenting one another’s strengths and building an intuitive connection that
shines through in the music.

The instrumentalists they recorded – piano, Fender Rhodes, sax, flute and bass – offered new sonic visions to their productions, while the vocalists they engaged were friends first, chosen for their idiosyncrasies to help shape the feel of each track, speaking more to the collaborative band dynamic of Romano’s youth than the often detached or remote process of modern dance music production. As he says, “the vocals grew and evolved with the track and the track grew and evolved with the vocals". The 6-track Mini-Album, which emerged, is the first expression of a project whose ethos is to shapeshift, constantly pushing boundaries and expanding into an A/V live show and LP that
will capture the full breadth of the sonic world Tenashee are creating.
